The 3rd edition of the QFTC mentoring program is now over!

VFX ET ANIMATION - PROGRAMME DE MENTORAR - AN

As part of its VFX/Animation project for an inclusive and innovative recovery, the Quebec Film and Television Council opened, in September 2022, its mentoring program aimed at fostering the retention of talent in the visual effects and animation industry through a 6-month accompaniment with industry professionals in charge of guiding young VFX/Animation graduates (and/or first-time job seekers in the same field) to take their first steps in the industry.

“Thanks to the support of the City of Montreal and our partner studios, we are pleased to be able to put in place all these initiatives aimed at supporting local talent in visual effects and animation. The exceptional growth that this sector has experienced over the past 10 years has contributed to Quebec’s reputation as one of the three major hubs in the world. It is therefore essential to allow our local talent to continue to develop under the best possible conditions.” said Christine Maestracci, President and CEO of the Quebec Film and Television Council.

The program in a nutshell

The QFTC is very proud of the program which had (for this third edition) 21 mentors and 21 mentees. The latter shared 6 months during which they were encouraged to meet sporadically in order to study and understand the workings of the industry.

Last session of this edition

The last session of this edition took place on April 18th at ISART school. The program included a closing evening with the mentors and mentees. This cocktail was a brilliant networking opportunity for the mentees, and was also an occasion for everyone to take stock of the program’s achievements.

A next edition already launched

The next and final edition of the mentoring program will launch on May 15, 2023 and end on December 19, 2023.

During this 6-month period, the mentees will follow training sessions with Jennifer Petrela (Mentorat Québec), who is honoring us by joining the program for the 4th consecutive edition. They will then be matched with industry professionals whom they can meet at their own pace to establish short and long term career goals and work on developing their skills.

Registration is officially open. If you are interested in being part of the program as a mentor or mentee:

The project partners

The QFTC would like to thank the participants of the program, the City of Montreal without whom this project would not have been possible, but also the partners of the project: Caribara, Cinesite, DNEG, Framestore, Hybride, NAD-UQAC school, ISART school, Reel FX and Rodeo FX, as well as MPC and Mikros Animation of Technicolor Group.

Capitale-Nationale (Québec City)

The Capitale-Nationale region offers a wide variety of natural settings and truly is the perfect environment for filming. The Old Québec neighbourhood is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The historic capital is unique in North America for its remarkable architecture, European ambience and military fortifications. In fact, it’s the only fortified city north of Mexico.
Among the many remarkable features, you will find magnificent, pristine parks; villages with numerous historic buildings, some dating back to New France; the rigorously reconstructed village of Wendake, home of the Huron-Wendat Nation; the dramatic landscapes along the banks of the majestic St. Lawrence River, and many other others. A film office and an experienced local workforce are at your service.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue

A landscape of contrasting scenery of lakes and rivers, the vast region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue is situated north of the Ottawa river region, along the Quebec-Ontario border. It is inhabited by friendly people who take pride in sharing their history and culture.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue is very young, as far as regions go—its oldest city is 130 years old. However, traces of the Anishinabek people date back 8,000 years, and this Algonquin First Nation continues to be a thriving presence in the territory today.
