“Quebec can be proud of its visual effects and animation talents, which are world-renowned,” said Christine Maestracci, CEO of the Quebec Film and Television Council. “This remarkable performance has been consistent for several years, given that the visual effects designed here are celebrated at numerous international events. Our creativity and our expertise in visual effects and animation are undeniably contributing to Quebec’s international reputation!”

Quebec also performs well at international awards ceremonies such as the British Academy Film and Television Awards (BAFTA), the Australian Effects & Animation Awards (AEAF), the Golden Globes Awards, the Academy Awards (Oscars) and the Emmy Awards. Over the past three years, our visual effects and animation studios have collected more than 30 prestigious awards.

Something to pay attention to: Oscar night on March 12, with nominations for Pinocchio and Top Gun: Maverick, two productions that Quebec studios contributed to!

It is not surprising that Quebec’s expertise is hailed at major world events and that our talents are universally recognized when it comes to visual effects and animation. After all, Quebec is one of the three main hubs in the world for this field, along with London and Los Angeles. Some 40 studios and more than 6,500 experts (75% more than in 2017) have been working here on the biggest blockbusters and the most important TV series of the last decade. Stranger ThingsGames of ThronesX-Men: ApocalypseStar Wars: The Force Awakens, DisenchantedSpongeBob 3DPaw Patrol: The MoviePinocchioTop Gun: Maverick and many other great hits bear the signature of Quebec creators and studios.

The Visual Effects Society (VES) is an organization of over 4,000 visual effects professionnels in 40 countries working in the entertainment industry (film, television, advertising, video games and music). Each year, it organizes various public events to promote this creative sector, to foster innovative techniques and to protect the rights of its members while participating in their training.

VES holds its annual Visual Effects Society Awards (the VES Awards) in February. This unique event celebrates and showcases the world’s top visual effects talents.

The organization’s logo and trophy are inspired by the iconic figure of the French adventure short film Le Voyage dans la Lune, directed by Georges Méliès in 1902.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue

A landscape of contrasting scenery of lakes and rivers, the vast region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue is situated north of the Ottawa river region, along the Quebec-Ontario border. It is inhabited by friendly people who take pride in sharing their history and culture.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue is very young, as far as regions go—its oldest city is 130 years old. However, traces of the Anishinabek people date back 8,000 years, and this Algonquin First Nation continues to be a thriving presence in the territory today.
