MONTREAL, August 23, 2018 – The Quebec Film and Television Council (QFTC) and the Canada-China International Film Festival (member of the Canada-China Art-Tech group) are pleased to announce their partnership for the third edition of the festival, which will take place from September 21 to 27 in Montreal.

With 20% of the global market, China has the fastest- growing film and television industry in the world. It is about to surpass the United States, the traditional leader in this sector. The Canada-China International Film Festival offers a unique opportunity to explore the potential of this market and develop Sino-Quebec business relations.

Organization of two familiarization tours
The QFTC will take the opportunity to invite 12 Chinese producers and key decision makers on two familiarization tours (Famtours): one devoted to film and television production and the other to the field of virtual and augmented reality. These two Famtours will include studio visits as well as business meetings with partners and members of the QFTC.

September 27: Information Sessions on Funding and Networking
Several activities specifically dedicated to business development will be offered on September 27 :

  • An information session organized in collaboration with Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton (RCGT) on film and television financing in China and in Quebec, including an overview of available tax incentives;
  • A discussion led by various professionals in the field of new technologies, including virtual and augmented reality, as well as testimonials from Quebec companies that are already successfully working with China;
  • Participants will then be invited to take part in a networking session.

The day will end with the closing event of the festival, including a cocktail reception, dinner and an awards ceremony.

“This partnership is among the actions carried out by the QFTC as part of its strategy to develop new territories, stemming from its three-year plan for 2018-2021, in order to foster the growth of Quebec’s audiovisual industry,” said Pierre Moreau, CEO of the QFTC. “All our members are invited to participate in this event, which will offer a chance to seize the business opportunities offered by the Chinese market.”

A landscape of contrasting scenery of lakes and rivers, the vast region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue is situated north of the Ottawa river region, along the Quebec-Ontario border. It is inhabited by friendly people who take pride in sharing their history and culture.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue is very young, as far as regions go—its oldest city is 130 years old. However, traces of the Anishinabek people date back 8,000 years, and this Algonquin First Nation continues to be a thriving presence in the territory today.
